The Used Stamp Appeal in Daventry has passed yet another significant milestone. Since the project began, about six years ago, a total of 625,000 used stamps have been donated by the kind people in the area.

The latest donations to the appeal, organised by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were of particular interest, and included three Historic Postal Maps of Britain.

Jan Head, owner of Orchard Print Services which is one of the collection points, said: “It’s wonderful that the stamps just keep coming in.

“The donations this time ranged from an album of world stamps to the complete collection of stamps donated by the family of a relative that passed away at the age of 104 years, who had been saving stamps for many years. Imagine, a lifetime’s collection - how very generous.”

The stamps are processed by members of the church, and their friends, after which they are donated to Oxfam and Leukaemia CARE who sell them to raise vital funds for their organisations.

Des Waddington, project co-ordinator for the church, said: “While we are grateful for every single stamp that is donated, this latest batch was particularly exciting as it contained some very old stamps and a number of first day covers, which tend to be relatively valuable. The generosity of the people in the Daventry area is fantastic to see.”

Anyone who has used stamps to donate can take them to Orchard Print Services on High Street in Daventry or to the Post Office at the top of Sheaf Street.
