Welton unlocks hidden secrets for Heritage Open Days

What started as a simple village meeting based on the BBC show Where the X am I? has exploded into a major historical archive.

After asking residents to dig through their attics, we uncovered house documents, Victorian school logs and even a literal shoebox of odd family items that link this small Northamptonshire village directly to world-altering events.

Our upcoming free exhibition at St Martin’s Church reveals that past Welton villagers were directly tied to:

The American War of Independence and Russian Revolution

The tragic period of division during the Partition of India

Crafting literal crowns for kings

Alongside these global links, the archive has unearthed deeply intimate, inspirational, and sometimes delightfully "naughty" stories about the struggles and scandals of past residents.

You’ll be surprised at who has lived in our small rural village.

There will also be a display of paintings by Eric Fleming, a young boy in Welton in the 1920s, whose work beautifully captures life at that time.

Bring the kids and follow our heritage trail around the village – every child who takes part gets a sweet treat.

The exhibition takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 12.
