Purple Army cruise through in cup as they put four past Radford

Daventry Town claimed a comfortable cup win last Saturday as they secured their second victory of the campaign in convincing style.

The Purple Army proved far too strong for Radford in the Sports Ground Development UCL Cup preliminary round clash at the Master Abrasives Stadium.

The difference in levels was clear from the off as Daventry dominated.

And Town took the lead inside just two minutes as Tom Iaciofano put the ball to the back post, where Daniel Gillard was waiting to pounce.

As the rain came down, the Purple Army continued to pour forward, with the lead almost doubled from a corner two minutes later.

Lewis Patching stopped a tame header to keep Town ahead on 12 minutes before Gabriel Badero saw his effort go just wide at the other end.

Archie May then had an effort from a free-kick saved, but he hit the net soon after as he beat his man and hit a shot that was deflected home.

Town could have been further ahead by the break, but Luke Knight saw his penalty saved.

Patching made a good save on the stroke of half-time to ensure it stayed 2-0 at the end of a half that the Purple Army could be pleased with.

May continued to cause problems for Radford and he was the man who notched the third goal for Town as he combined well with Joshua Yeboah before finding the net.

There was to be no hat-trick for May as he was replaced soon after but there was to be a fourth goal for the Purple Army as Sam Jackson sent a superb cross into the box and Iaciofano rose well to head it home.

There was still time for Radford to hit the post from a cross but that was to be the closest they came to scoring as Town celebrated claiming a clean sheet.
