Preview: Hemel boss Brennan calls for a winning finale against Eastbourne

The Tudors currently sit eighth in the division, and could realistically only climb one place in the table or drop one, depending on their result against 11th-placed Eastbourne.

Brennan is in confident mood ahead of Saturday’s clash and is urging his players to stake their claims for a place in the squad for next season.

“We want to finish on a high and we want to give the supporters something to cheer about,” he said.

“Eastbourne are a good side and we know a lot about them. Obviously their manager is an ex-Hemel manager so we look forward to seeing Tommy (Widdrington) again.

“Really, a lot of the lads are still on trial at our football club because we want to push on and make sure we have a bright start to next season, as well as finishing this season with a victory.

“It would be nice to get our first home clean sheet of the season.

“In the cup final, players like Kabamba, Gibson and Head came into the side, players who haven’t been regulars this season, and they did very well that night.

“Last weekend we struggled against Whitehawk, so it would be nice if those players could come back in and do well again this week.

“To finish in the top eight would be fantastic and if we could nick another place up that would be great. It shows other clubs and other players that we are serious about next season.”

Brennan is already looking towards the next campaign, and is eager to build on a promising debut outing in the division.

“A lot of people have given us praise, but I feel that we have come up a bit short personally. We’ve had 11 opportunities to get into the top five and not taken them, which has been mightily frustrating,” he said.

“But we can only learn from that and I can’t wait for next season now.

“The players know that they have had an unbelievable opportunity this year and a lot of them have earned it by helping us to get promoted last season.

“We’ve given everyone a fair crack of the whip but I’m very ambitious and the club is very ambitious.

“This is a big town and it needs a big football club. You only get big crowds by winning titles and being involved in promotion pushes so that’s what we are aiming for next season.”

“The fans have been outstanding all season. When we got here we only had a handful of diehard fans, and now there are plenty. We want that to keep growing.”
