Cobblers striker Alex Revell has suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf muscle injury.

The frontman was expected to feature in the weekend trip to Fleetwood Town, having recovered from the injury he suffered in the 5-3 defeat at Milton Keynes Dons last month.

But the 33-year-old broke down in training on Friday, and has no chance of playing in Tuesday night’s Sixfields Sky Bet League one date with Oldham Athletic.

It is not yet known how serious the problem with Revell is, but he is to undergo a scan on Monday, and manager Justin Edinburgh said: “We had bad news with Alex, who had a bit of a setback on Friday.

“We will assess that, but he is certainly not available for Tuesday night, and that is a real blow for us.

“I will know a little bit more about the injury by the end of play today.

“It’s the same calf injury, and we are having a scan done so we can find out more.

“We are really disappointed, and more so for Alex, as it has been a really difficult period for him and is a big blow for him and us.”

There was also some positive news for the Cobblers on the injury front through, with both Luke Williams and Brendan Moloney taking part in full training at Moulton College on Monday.

Moloney hasn’t featured for Town since undergoing a knee operation following the 1-0 derby defeat to Peterborough United, while Williams injured a knee in the 2-1 loss at Walsall earlier this month.

The forward returned to parent club Scunthorpe United for treatment, but is now back with the Cobblers and could come into contention for a place on the bench against Oldham Athletic.

There were no other injury concerns from Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Fleetwood.
