After the hosts declared on 441 for eight, David Ripley’s men had a torrid time with the bat, slipping to 14 for five before Rossington’s unbeaten 67 took them up to 119 all out.

They were forced to follow on and sit on 148 for four going into the final day.

And Rossington said: “We are in a disappointing position in the game, but we will keep fighting tomorrow.

“We need to club together and try to dig in.

“I’m naturally positive and wanted to play my way, even though wickets were falling, just backing myself.

“They bowled well today, there were a couple we pushed too hard at.

“We definitely believe we can bat out the overs tomorrow.”
