Stephen Peters and Adam Rossington got some valuable time at the crease for Northamptonshire as they drew their pre-season friendly against Nottinghamshire.

The pair shared a 120-run stand at Trent Bridge after the loss of two early wickets on a day when wind and rain made cricket a tough proposition.

Alex Wakely and Rob Newton both retired overnight, giving opportunities to some of the squad’s other batsmen but Josh Cobb (4) and Rob Keogh (0) missed out.

However, Peters and Rossington settled in and although the latter fell for a brisk 54, Peters was unbeaten on 84 - with Saif Zaib two not out - when Northamptonshire declared on 192-4.

That left Nottinghamshire with 30 overs to bat and they closed on 186-2 with trialists Ben Sanderson and George Bacon claiming the wickets of Alex Hales and Chris Read respectively.
