Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show celebrates raising £2million in 40 years

‘It feels amazing to reach this total’

An annual event which has been running in Northamptonshire for four decades has raised £2million for local charities and causes.

Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show runs every first full weekend in July, attended by some 40,000 people and ran entirely by volunteers.

This year’s event, which was the 37th in the show’s history, raised an impressive £75,000 for good causes in Northamptonshire. It takes the total raised over the past 40 years to £2million.

Chairman Neil Byrd said: “It feels amazing to reach this total, £2million is a huge number, especially when you stop and think about how many people and organisations that money has helped, it’s something we’re really proud of.

“It’s also a credit to everyone who has supported us along the way. We couldn’t have got there without them, so it’s a milestone we’re really grateful for.”

The show supports causes it feels are making a difference locally, which have so far included charities helping families and young people, community groups, and people going through difficult times.

Neil said: “What makes it worthwhile for us is knowing that the money is actually helping people, whether that’s giving a local organisation a bit of extra support, helping a family when they need it, or giving young people opportunities they might not otherwise have.

“It’s really nice to see where the money goes and the difference it can make.”

The annual event includes steam engines, classic cars, vintage tractors, commercial and military vehicles. It also features a fun fair and heavy horse displays.

The milestone was celebrated at a recent cheque presentation night, where Neil and the team gave away the £75,000 to 63 local causes.

And they are not planning to stop here, and are already looking ahead to their next target.

Neil added: “Reaching £2million is a great milestone, but there are still so many good causes out there that need support.

“We will keep doing what we’re doing and raise another £2 million, that would be incredible achievement. So, £4 million could the next target!”

The next event will take place on July 3 and 4. Visit www.hollowellsteam.com for updates.
