Ghostly apparitions from soldiers who perished in the Battle of Naseby, despairing sounds of a crying infant, spirits of victims who were mercilessly murdered: these are all occurrences that have reportedly been witnessed at destinations across Northamptonshire.
Embark on a ghost hunt in one of these locations… if you dare.
5. St Crispins Hospital
St Crispins is an abandoned psychiatric hospital in Northampton. Urban explorers have reported seeing a ghost here, called Craig.
6. Overstone Hall
A devastating fire tore through Overstone Hall in the early 2000s, leaving the 18th Century House standing derelict. It was built for Lady Overstone in the 1860s but she did not live to see her design finished. Her husband, Lord Overstone, hated the mansion so much that he refused to stay there.
7. The World's End
The World’s End pub in Ecton lies on the site of a former prison that was used to house prisoners captured at the battle of Naseby in 1645. The pub is believed to be haunted by their spirits. There is also a rumour that it is haunted by a former barmaid who was killed by her suitor in a fit of jealous rage. It has been claimed that there is a woman ghost who emerges in the road at night and a car overturned trying to pass through her.
8. The Church Bar and Restaurant
It was formerly St John’s Hospital, which opened in 1138. Many bodies of soldiers killed in the Battle of Northampton were either buried here or flushed down the river. It was confiscated during the revolution under Henry VIII and was reconsecrated as a Catholic Church before undergoing refurbishment in the late 1990s to become the modern restaurant we know today.
