Opposition view: Clinical finishing delights Rosler as Fleetwood boss praises Edinburgh's Cobblers

The final scoreline suggests it was a comfortable afternoon for Rosler’s men but they were second best for much of the first-half when Northampton spurned three clear chances.

Michael Smith twice failed to hit the target when through on goal while Marc Richards was denied by a fine save from Alex Cairns.

It all started to go wrong for the Cobblers on 42 minutes when Devante Cole pounced on a defensive mix-up to round Adam Smith and fire Fleetwood ahead at the break.

The home side never looked back from that moment as two goals in the space of four second-half minutes, scored by Bobby Grant and David Ball, ensured their unbeaten run would stretch to 17 league games.

“Big compliments to Justin Edinburgh as they played well for the first 20 minutes,” admitted Rosler afterwards.

“The weather played into their hands, they were with the wind and they really put pressure on us. Defensively, we weren’t at our best in those 20 minutes, we were riding our luck a little bit in that period and we were lucky to get away with that without conceding a goal.

“After that, we started to do everything that we trained for, you could see that after 20 minutes.

“We got the ball wide, we got passes in out of their press and we started to control the game a bit more and in the second-half, we were the worthy winners.”

Fleetwood’s clinical finishing particularly pleased Rosler with all three goals well-taken, even if the defending left a lot to be desired.

He added: “We had some outstanding performances. Normally I don’t point out individuals because it is all about the team.

“I thought Bobby Grant, Kyle Dempsey, David Ball, we had a very strong line throughout our team and they have been outstanding and the rest of the players were solid.

“We were clinical, the strikers did well and the finishing was excellent, and in the second-half, we got control of the game completely.”
