Support for charity blossoms at Daventry school

The school council at Ashby Fields Primary School decided they wanted to raise money for Marie Curie Nurses by taking part in the Great Daffodil Appeal.

The children invited a Marie Curie representative to their meeting so they could decide if this was a charity they would like to support.

The children were very passionate about supporting this cause, and they sold daffodil badges to the children, parents and grandparents of the school, as well as the wider local community, including workers and shoppers at the nearby Wimborne Place.

The school council then decided they would like to do more to support the charity.

They organised a cake sale where they asked all members of staff to bake cakes and make edible daffodil icing toppers.

The children then iced and decorated these cakes and held a sale after school.

In total the school council raise £454.25.

Deputy headteacher Jane Page, who runs the school council, said: “I am very proud of the school council, they have driven this initiative and been very passionate about raising as much money as possible. They are a real credit to themselves and the community.”

Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. As well as providing nurses who provide care at home, the charity also provides helplines and online support, volunteers and hospices.
