Musical talents showcased

The Rock School opened up proceedings at the event, held on June 25.

This was followed by the junior concert, featuring the orchestra, wind and string ensembles, choir, recorder, dance and drama groups.

During the concert, a cake raffle took place, with the winners able to choose from a selection of a dozen cakes.

Rock School played again during the afternoon, with the Hat and Hair at Casey’s Club as part of the Daventry Arts Festival.

The final event of the day was the senior concert at Holy Cross church, featuring the woodwind, orchestra, brass, guitar, string, folk and jazz ensembles.

The variety of music played varied from fairly serious classical across folk and film themes to popular music.

Compere John Evans kept the audience amused with jokes and commentary during group changeovers, while the Reverend Canon Michael Webber made the Daventry Music Centre very welcome at the event.

Town mayor Glenda Simmonds said how impressed she was by the performances and praised the support of the many parents, staff, friends and volunteers.

This was also an opportunity to give thank-you gifts to centre head Kerry Horner, who runs the successful Saturday morning music centre, Lynette Wild, who directs the brass band and takes them out regularly to play at events during the year, and student helpers, young people who volunteer at the centre.

There is also a small and dedicated band of adult volunteers who help out on Saturday mornings and at concerts.

Daventry Music Centre involves adults and children from Daventry and the surrounding villages.
