A disabled Daventry mother has said her dream garden makeover for her autistic son has turned into a 'nightmare'.

Claire Ray saved hundreds of pounds to create a safe and fun area for her son, Ryan, nine, to spend time in.

She said she was badly let down by the gardeners who said they were up to the job.

Claire, who lives on the Southbrook Estate, has rheumatoidarthritis and psoriatic arthritis. .

She recently had her knee replaced.

Claire said: "I saved long and hard to have the garden done, but the whole situation has just turned into a nightmare.

"It looks like a building site now and being disabled, I just don't know what to do. It will take me ages to save up again."

She put an appeal on Facebook and has been overwhelmed with messages of support.

Claire, 47, added: "A gardener came out to have a look and he said it had been left in a shocking state. He said I will need a digger to get the mud removed."

"I am overwhelmed with support from so many people online. I wish I could sort it all out myself but with mine and Ryan's disabilities and finances, now it's impossible. I only clean one room in the house and the next day I am in bed with a flare up.

"My condition means I have pain and swelling in all of my joints everyday and in lower spine. I am on two injections to lower my immune system, so I have been shielding since last March. I also need my right knee and left hip replacing."

She said Ryan is disappointed he can't play outside.

"He knows it's not safe, but it's hard for him to understand," added Claire.
