Sulgrave hosts Fiori Musicali concert

Fiori Musicali will be putting on a concert at Sulgrave Manor later this week.

Sulgrave Manor and Fiori are teaming up in a new venture to bring live classical music in a variety of unusual formats.

There will be lazy Sunday morning concerts (with coffee and crossants!) and starting next week Tea and Telemann – beautiful baroque music for cello and harpsichord by Telemann and his contemporaries – with afternoon tea (and of course cucumber sandwiches!)

Fiori have a reputation for attracting some of the finest specialist musicians to this part of the country, playing beautiful music in beautiful places. To start this series Fiori cellist Claire Babington will be performing alongside Fiori’s director Penelope Rapson (on harpsichord) in the historic surroundings of George Washington’s ancestral home.

Besides playing some of Claire favourite baroque repertoire, the two musicians will also be talking about the music they perform, revealing something about their passion for baroque music. Claire also plays in the Liverpool Philharmonic and the Halle Orchestras. Writing of her playing, one concert reviewer recently commented on her “admirable freedom and facility – an inspiring performance”.

Penelope Rapson, Fiori’s director, said: “We are thrilled to be having this mini-series at Sulgrave. Cymon Snow General Manager at Sulgrave and Fiori have designed three or four concerts this season, each with a special angle, Coffee and Croissants, Tapas and Torrega etc.

“Our mission is to bring great professional music to the people of Northamptonshire and these concerts are literally ‘tasters” - a great way in to classical music for people who haven’t been to concerts for a while and would like to enjoy a short informal concert.

“This new series culminates in our popular New Year Concert which has become a bit of a landmark in the South Northants calendar”
