All the fun of the fair returns to town later this month with plenty of fun for all the family.

The Mop Fair will be rolling into town on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, in The Hollow and the old gas works car park.

The future of the event was cast into doubt earlier this year when its old organiser, the Daventry Business Partnership was wound up following a vote by town centre businesses.

However, the event has now been taken on by Daventry District Council, and expanded into the neighbouring playing field with a live stage.

There will be dozens of rides and stalls for everyone including a helter skelter, trampolines, a dinosaur play house, a climbing wall, fun house, waltzers, dodgems, an orbiter and lots more.

There will also be free children’s entertainment on the stage on The Hollow playing fields.

Performing on the Saturday afternoon will be international cabaret artist Peter Cutler whose varied roles include Marius in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre London, and Niel Judson in Hollyoaks.

Organised by Muggeridge and Sons Fair with Daventry District Council, the Mop Fair will open at 10am on the Saturday and finish at 10pm, and will be open on the Sunday from noon to 6pm.

Cllr Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “The Mop Fair is always a popular event in the town and will be a great day out for all the family, with lots of different rides and fun to be had.

“As well as the rides and refreshments, there will also be free entertainment so I hope lots of people go along over the weekend and have a great time.”

The gas works car park will close at 5pm on the Friday to accommodate the event.
