Comedy and drama blend in films shown in villages

A pair of true stories, one surrounding the playwright Alan Bennnet, and the other about the struggles of women will be shown at two separate village halls in the coming weeks.

Braunston Cinema Club will be showing the film The Lady in the Van at Braunston Village Hall on Saturday March 26.

It tells the true story of Mary Shepherd, an elderly woman who lived in a dilapidated van on Bennett’s driveway in London for 15 years

The screening starts at 7.30pm.

This will be followed by Yelvertoft Village Hall showing the film Suffragette starring Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep.

A film about the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal state.
