Daventry Players make their return after a three-year interregnum.

There will be plenty of singing, cabaret and casino when an amateur dramatics group perform their first show in three years.

Daventry Players have made their come back after a couple of enjoyable reunions during the past 12 months and are now about to grace the stage once again.

The title of the show is Swing When You’re Winning and it will be performed on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. It is a cabaret and casino show, and will be held at Casey’s Club on the Market Square in Daventry.

The show has been directed by two of the Players’ more seasoned members, Kellie Hodgett and Glyn Fearby – members since 1984 and 1978 respectively.

Glyn said: “Things had petered out with us over the years but we still had a Daventry Players page on Facebook. I had a lot of old photos and videos of the group and uploaded them to the page.

“That led to us all reminiscing about the good times and we had a couple of reunions in the pub and we then thought ‘let’s get back together’.”

While Swing When You’re Winning is the kind of evening that Daventry Players have done before, there will also be some departures for the group.

Glyn said: “We have done casino nights before and they have been really successful, but this promises to be a different and quirky evening.

“Not only will there be casino games to be played during the two intervals, but the songs performed will be a break from the norm – pop songs in a retro style.

“Imagine Ella Fitzgerald singing Spandau Ballet or the Andrews Sisters performing Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights.

“There are a lot of songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, even the current day which are being performed in a very old style.

“The rehearsals are going really well and the show is shaping up very nicely.

“This is one comeback show not to be missed.”

Casino games to be played will include rouelette, craps and blackjack with pretend money. There will also grand auction for prizes.

Glyn added: “It will be a great chance for people to see some old faces on the stage and we hope that it will be a great evening with a lot of light-hearted fun.

Doors for the show are open from 7pm and the performances of the show starts at 7.30pm each evening.

Tickets are priced at £7.50 and can be bought from Medusa Touch, the hairdressers on the Abbey Retail Park. Alternatively they can be booked by calling 07597 553950.
