WORKSHOPS to design and make items for the town’s first carnival in 15 years were held at the weekend.

They took place at the Phoenix Centre in Ashby Road, Daventry on both Saturday and Sunday last week. The carnival will be held on the final day of Daventry Arts Festival on Saturday July 23 and promises to be a spectacular street style event.

The professional artist and organiser of the carnival, Rik Stack, pictured right with Annette Dunn, said: “I was really pleased with the turn out and delighted with the energy, enthusiasm and the amount that was achieved.

“The six foot long Honey Bee, one of the carnival images, is almost complete and looks fantastic.”

The arts festival has been organised by Daventry Business Partnership and is part of Igniting Ambition, a cultural olympiad for the East Midlands.

It is designed to take the 2012 Games and create once in a lifetime opportunities for local communities.
