Visitors to the annual Harpole Scarecrow Festival this weekend will have the chance to put forward a star for a new television advert.

The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday and the organisers have been approached by McCain Foods, which is talent scouting for a scarecrow to appear in an advert.

Visitors to the festival will be asked to vote for their favourite scarecrow, which will then be taken to London for a McCain selection process.

Villagers will be putting scarecrows on display outside their homes, but people from the surrounding areas can also put a scarecrow forward for selection by registering their entry at Harpole Village Shop.

A spokesman for the event said: “This is a fantastic village event which caters for all ages, attracting people from outside the county as well as locals who visit each year. The theme this year is ‘Vintage’ and visitors can expect to see a scarecrow trail competition to keep older children entertained all day.”

Entry is £2 adults (children are free) from 11am to 4pm each day.

The first 100 children to visit the festival each day will receive a free ice lolly, available at 11am.

On Saturday, festivities will continue from 6pm at the village playing field with a bar and entertainment.
