Touching the Void
Touching the Void

Here is our guide to some of the events taking place in and around Daventry this week.

Pumpkin Trails, Canons Ashby House, until October 25
Dress to impress and join us for a great family day, out hunting our hidden and spooky pumpkins in the grounds. Try the Pumpkin Trail as a team and explore the grounds whilst seeking our pumpkins and solving the clues! Then collect your sticker. Then why not warm up with a hot chocolate or a bowl of soup? The event is free but normal admission charges apply. It runs from 10am to 3.30pm.
Touching the Void, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, until October 20
What happens when you look death squarely in the face and how do you find the strength to crawl back towards life? Joe Simpson’s best-selling memoir, turned BAFTA‑winning film, charts his struggle for survival in the Andes in 1985. The heart of the story is Joe’s mental battle as he teeters on the brink of death and despair in a crevasse from which he can’t possibly climb to safety. Alongside this is the appalling dilemma of Simon Yates, perched on an unstable snow-cliff, battered by freezing winds and desperate to rescue his injured climbing partner who hangs from a rope below him.
The South Northants Art Tail takes, various venues around the area, until October 14
The annual showcase of artistic talent in South Northamptonshire kicks off this weekend with the longest list of contributors and venues in the event’s six-year-history. Venues and artists will display work in a wide range of mediums: ceramics, painting, jewellery, stitching, glassware and several venues will feature a mixture.
Braunston Arts and Crafts Festival, October 13-14
Visit Braunston High Street. Browse a wide variety of arts and crafts stalls as you walk between All Saints’ Church and The Old Plough pub. This year more than 40 stallholders will enthral with beautifully crafted items or engage your creativity at workshops along the trail. Enjoy locally made refreshments, a journey of discovery of the written word, art, craft, history and also vote for your winner in the best scarecrow competition. No entry fee, suggested donation £2 for adults. All fundraising goes towards the Friends of All Saints Church.
