Daventry Under-14s turned in a good performance, but suffered a 27-14 defeat in their second league game of the season at Leighton Buzzard.
Right from the kick off, Daventry knew they were in for a challenging game of rugby as Buzzard scored a try two minutes in.
After 12 minutes the home side scored a second try, which was also converted, to go 12-0 ahead.
It was harsh on Daventry, who had played well, and Buzzard rubbed more salt into the All Blacks wounds as they then added a third try to lead 17-0 after just 14 minutes.
Daventry refused to buckle though, and on the stroke of half time they were rewarded for their battling performance by a well-taken team try that was finished off by Harry Hayward, and converted, to make it 17-7 at halfthe break.
The second half started evenly until one of Buzzard’s backs scored a wonderful solo effort, which he repeated just minutes later. This was converted to put the home side in control at 27-7.
Daventry again showed character and hit back, with Hayward scoring his second try of the match. Ben James converted his second of the game, and it was 27-14.
Although beaten, Daventry can be proud of their effort.
