Village side enjoy mixed fortunes

IN the Rugby Tennis League this week, Kilsby faced LMRCA at home.

First pairing of Andy Abbis and James Loader started well and raced into a 3-0 lead, but their opponents picked up their game and came back to force a tie-break.

The LMRCA pair used the momentum to take the first set.The second set went with serve all the way to another tie-break and unfortunately for Kilsby the result was the same as the first set.

The second pair of Tim Rose and Bob Dunn had a topsy-turvy match, playing good tennis to win their first set 6-2 but then collapsed to lose the second set 6-0.

After a 15-minute break for rain, the players returned to find the newly-resurfaced courts perfectly playable.

Despite different opponents James and Andy went to another tie-break in their second rubber, this time managing to win the set.

The second set looked like going the same way until a break in the ninth game allowed them to serve out for the set.

Tim and Bob worked hard but could not get the better of strong opponents and lost 6-3, 7-5 in their second rubber.

Kilsby lost 5-3, but it was a competitive match played in a friendly atmosphere.

In the Northampton League Kilsby were also playing at home against Dallington ‘C’. Steve Rose returned for Kilsby to play only his second match of the season, partnering Tim Morris.

Their first match against Dallington’s second pairing proved to be a stroll for them coming out easy victors 6-0 and 6-3.

But their second match was a much more competitive affair. With both sets first swinging one way and then the other it ended with honours even, one set each.

Brian Perry once again paired up with James Loader. Unfortunately the Dallington first pairing proved to be too strong and, despite leading the second set at one stage 4-1, they lost both sets 3-6 and 4-6.

However against the second pairing they were able to raise their game and came out comfortable winners 6-3 and 6-2. Overall a 5-3 win for Kilsby maintained their middle of the league position.
