Victory but a nail-biting finish for ladies

THE ladies of Daventry Town Bowls Club won their first round of this year’s county “Top Club”, against Roade, in a nail-biting finish.

This competition is decided by the team playing four different games at the same time. The winner is decided by who has the most points.

A point is awarded to each game won, if it’s a points draw, the win is decided on who has the most shots, across all the games.

Daventry started off on the back foot when losing the “singles” to a strong Roade opponent.

The next to finish was the “triples”. This they won with a massive score.

The other two games were proceeding towards the end with both bringing defeats for Daventry.

The home team, really dug in deep and slowly started to pull back. The result came down to the last bowl of the pairs game. Daventry needed two shots to win, and was holding one shot.

The Daventry skip under massive pressure, managed to draw in a second shot to win the game and match.

As it was a draw on games won, Daventry won the match on shots scored.

Daventry captain June Coyles was over the moon with her team’s performance.

The next round will be held at home on the June 18 against Burton Latimer. Spectators are more than welcome.
