DAVENTRY United aimed to put their heavy weekend defeat against Newport Pagnell behind them as they prepared to take on Long Buckby in the Hillier Senior Cup yesterday (Wednesday).

On Saturday the Motormen were rocked by a heavy 6-1 defeat despite going into an early lead in the match.

But the Swans recovered from their early setback conceding the opening goal to pick up an impressive fourth win in a row.

The breakthrough came as early as the 16th minute when Duncan Harris scored the opener for the Motormen who got off to an ideal start.

But their elation was short-lived as Dom Lawless levelled for Newport just before the half-hour.

Two goals later gave the Swans a comfortable cushion as they started to take control.

Sean McBride gave the home side the lead after 42 minutes and Richard Armstrong increased their advantage minutes later.

But the Swans were not finished yet and Armstrong added his second goal after 57 minutes and Lawless added another.

Then a Vinny Shrieves goal in the final stages of this UCL Premier Division game completed the scoring in a match which the Motormen will be keen to forget.
