The loosehead prop has started the past two games for Northampton, with brother and regular starter Alex given a slight rest among the replacements.

And Academy product Ethan is revelling in the chances he is being given, particularly in recent wins against Gloucester and Saracens.

“I didn’t think I’d be playing this much this season, let alone getting the starts I have in the LV= Cup and in the Premiership game against Gloucester recently,” said the 21-year-old.

“It’s been an incredible season for me and better than I could ever have expected.

“But I’m under no illusions that I’m still massively learning my trade. It’s only my first season in the Premiership and the first team regularly.

“It did come as a bit of a surprise to me to start against Gloucester, but Al deserved the rest.

“He’s been getting a good shift this season, didn’t really get a rest in the LV= Cup because he was with the England Saxons so I was just happy to step up and do what I could.”
