Both players have missed their club’s past two games, against Exeter and Sale Sharks, through injury.

Myler had been on the teamsheet for both matches, which ended in defeats, but was forced to pull out at the last minute with a hamstring injury.

Glenn Dickson was the man to start at fly-half at Exeter, while Will Hooley got the nod against Sale.

But Saints are now giving Myler every chance to be ready for the easy midlands derby at Franklin’s Gardens this weekend.

“We’re undecided on Stephen at the moment,” said attack coach Alex King. “He’s going to have to take a late fitness test on Friday, but we’ve got players who can come in and do a job if he can’t play.

“It’s part of the game and you just have to get on with it.

“You don’t want to put players in a situation where they have a two-week injury and it turns into a six to eight-week one and their season’s finished.

“The season isn’t won and lost this weekend. It will be determined in May and we’ll look after players as and when they need rest.”

And on No.8 Dickinson, King added: “It’s a similar situation. It’s too early to tell at the moment and fingers crossed all the players can be available for selection, but it’s too early to tell.”
