The loosehead prop left Northampton to join London Irish in 2016, and the move has been a productive one.

Hobbs-Awoyemi has established himself with Irish, fulfilling some of the potential he possessed when in the Academy at Franklin's Gardens.

He was a prominent player at age group level, helping England Under-20s to Junior World Championship glory in 2013 and 2014 while with Saints.

But he wasn't able to get the first-team game time he wanted at Franklin's Gardens, making just four appearances, all of which came from the bench.

The Northampton-born forward was unable to displace the likes of Alex Corbisiero and the Waller brothers, Alex and Ethan, and consequently headed to Irish in search of more minutes.

Hobbs-Awoyemi, who had played for Northampton Casuals and Wellingborough before joining the Saints Academy at the age of 16, helped Irish to return to the Premiership in 2019 and they are currently sitting eighth in the standings.

But the 26-year-old will now be heading back to Saints, where he will compete with Alex Waller, Francois van Wyk, Nick Auterac and Manny Iyogun for a starting berth.

Saints recently announced the departure of three loosehead props, with Will Davis, Toby Trinder and Gordon Reid, who was unable to play for the club, set to exit at the end of the month.
