The 24-year-old is a free agent and joins the club on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

Standing at 6ft 1in tall, the imposing Luckassen began his career with AZ Alkmaar, where he failed to break into the first team.

He moved to Scotland and signed for Ross County in 2013, but failed to score in 15 appearances for the Premiership outfit.

Next was a move to the Czech Republic, where Luckassen did well for Slovan Liberec in the top flight, scoring seven times in nine starts and three substitute appearances.

From there, he signed for Austrian side St Polten and netted four goals in 12 starts and 11 substitute appearances, but was released in the summer of 2017.

Luckassen has been searching for a new club since then, but after a two-week trial with the Cobblers he has found a new home.

With Town set to still be without the injured Kevin van Veen this weekend, Luckassen will be available for selection for Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers, subject to international clearance.
