Chris Boyd says Alex Mitchell may not play again this season due to the ankle injury he picked up at Leicester Tigers last month.

Mitchell was forced off during the first half of the win at Welford Road and was not able to face Gloucester at Franklin's Gardens on Saturday afternoon.

Boyd was asked about the scrum-half after the hugely disappointing 31-7 defeat to the Cherry and Whites.

And he said: "I don't know if he'll play again this season.

"He's somewhere between three and six weeks away.

"Three weeks would get him the last couple of games but six weeks would be the end of the season."

Saints lost Dan Biggar to concussion during the first half of the game against Gloucester.

The Wales star was involved in an unfortunate collision with Billy Twelvetrees and later failed a head injury assessment.

Boyd said: "He's okay.

"He had that clash with Billy Twelvetrees and failed his HIA.

"He didn't seem to have any symptoms.

"We've got a bit of a longer week, not playing until next Monday (at Newcastle) so he's got plenty of time to hopefully recover."
