Chris Boyd says Saints must 'get up emotionally seven times in the next nine weeks' as they prepare for a key run of Gallagher Premiership games.

The black, green and gold have seven regular-season matches remaining, starting with a home encounter against London Irish tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Saints currently sit fifth in the standings, four points off the top four.

And they know how important the next two weeks are as they take on sixth-placed Irish and seventh-placed Leicester Tigers.

"Both of these next two games are very important and the challenge for us is that we really need to get up emotionally seven times in the next nine weeks," Boyd said.

"If you take your eye off the ball once, you don't get the result.

"Its a real challenge to keep on keeping on really."

London Irish, like Saints, were eliminated from the Challenge Cup at the quarter-final stage last weekend, but both clubs have aspirations of making the Premiership play-offs.

"They're a real mixture," Boyd said of Irish. "At times, they're an incredibly good side and packed full of experience, lots of internationals and they play some really decent football.

"Mixed in with that is stuff that is a little bit indifferent, but you take London Irish lightly at your peril.

"They've got some good individuals and a good style of footy so they can be a handful.

"There's not much difference between third and 10th in this league - it's incredibly tight and there will a lot of clubs who still have (top-four aspirations). We're one and London Irish are another.

"You look at the middle of the field and they're all very capable sides so it's going to be a tough seven games."
