Saints centre Pat Howard has agreed a deal to join Newport Gwent Dragons this summer.
The 24-year-old South African, who can also play on the wing, has been unable to break into the Northampton team since joining the club prior to this season.
He scored in a pre-season win against Worcester Warriors and has also registered for the Wanderers, but has not made a first-team appearance.
And now the former Munster player will be making the move to Wales when the current campaign reaches its conclusion.
“I am really looking forward to returning to play in the Guinness PRO12 and am delighted that I have put pen to paper with the Dragons,” Howard said.
“I made my first appearance for Munster at Rodney Parade against the Dragons, and I am excited to be returning there and playing in front of a great crowd.
“I am sure that there are good times ahead with young and exciting squad being assembled and I am looking forward to making the move to Wales.”
