The club has announced that they will be travelling to Southampton to take on Hampshire in a two-day red ball friendly which will start on Thursday, March 25.

It is the first of three warm-up matches that David Ripley's side will play ahead of their opening Championship clash with Kent at the County Ground on Thursday, April 8.

Adam Rossington’s side first visit the Ageas Bowl for a two-day fixture against Hampshire before returning to Wantage Road for their two other friendlies.

The first is an intra-squad clash on March 28 and 29 where all the Northants players will get the chance to impress, before Leicestershire nip across the county border on April 4 for another two-day match.

All three matches will be played behind-closed-doors as per the current Government Covid-19 guidelines.

The Northants players are currently training indoors at the Lynn Wilson Centre at the County Ground, and it will be hoped the Northampton weather will improve sufficiently in the coming days to allow the players to partake in outdoor practice.

The County will play in Group 3 of the 2021 County Championship.

They will take on Kent, Lancashire, Glamorgan, Yorkshire and Sussex, playing each county twice.

Depending on where they finish in the group, Northants will then go on to play four more matches in a round play-off matches at the end of the summer.
