Long Buckby first team got the new year off to a flyer and stayed top of the league with a 7-1 win at Hampton in Arden IIs.

Buckby made some promising runs early on and were soon rewarded with some strong passing from Sharron Evans to secure the first goal from Susan Fox.

Following a defensive error, Hampton were 2-0 down following an excellent short corner effort from Amanda Becker.

Maintaining possession and structured passing allowed Sharron Evans to tap home a third.

Hampton created chances but a solid defence from backs Lynn Windatt and Kath Kates combined with some strong saves from keeper Sarah Fitzpatrick ensured Buckby kept a clean sheet at the break.

Hampton responded quickly following the restart and caught Buckby unaware to makde it 3-1 after the restart.

However, Buckby responded quickly with some continuous work through halves, Becky Scotney, Amanda and Abby McDowell to supply strong balls through to links Chloe Kirby and Sara Barnes to support the forward line. Two goals each came from Zara Nichols and Abbie Arnull alternating the efforts to increase Buckby’s lead.
