The new structure, which will replace the Sturtridge Pavilion, will take the capacity at the Gardens to more than 15,500, and will be completed by the end of October, 2015.

Chairman Tony Hewitt announced the decision to give the stand the Barwell name at Wednesday night’s season ticket holders forum.

It will recognise the contribution of Keith Barwell and his children Leon Barwell and Ella Bevan, who have played key roles in the club’s success.

Keith Barwell began his involvement with the club in the 1980s and poured in £1million when the game turned professional in 1996.

He oversaw success in the Heineken Cup in 2000 and various other tournaments before handing over the role of chairman to his son, Leon, in September, 2011.

Leon’s tenure was tragically cut short as he passed away in June last year, but his sister, Ella Bevan, remains heavily involved with the club, continuing to chair the Saints supporters liaison group.
