DAVENTRY snatched victory to retain their top spot in the league but at times made it hard work.
That said, there were flashes of class which led to Daventry’s first goal.
A slick, short pass from Alex Sheep to Monica Lambden found Amy Diment who set up Ronaldo Blyth to fire past the keeper.
Rothwell exploited the gaps from which they were awarded a penalty flick.
Keeper Karen Barlow dived at full stretch, managed to get a touch on the ball but it curled back into the corner of the goal to level the score.
At half-time Daventry re-grouped and from the start showed more drive.
Jackie Frost found space, crossed to Alex whose shot on goal was deflected high, controlled by Monica who directed it across the line.
Rothwell’s key players upped the tempo working the ball around well.
The intense pressure paid off for the opposition who scored two goals in quick succession which proved a turning point in the game.
Steph Borthwick pushed forward and the opposing team did not know what hit them.
Angelina Bartlett was awarded a penalty flick and Ronaldo stepped up to the spot and calmly pushed it into the corner.
Minutes later Amy was wiped out by the keeper and then Ronaldo was sandwiched by two defenders so also won a flick. Angelina tucked the ball past the diving keeper.
All Daventry had to do was hold on to the ball for the remaining minutes and bag the win.
