Swimmers exceed expectations

THE final event of the 2011 calender year was the male 1500m freestyle club championships.

There were three age groups – age group ‘A’ 11 /12yrs: ‘B’ 13/14/15 yrs: ‘C’ 16yrs+

There were impressive swims from these boys who all recorded personal (pb) or season best (sb) times.

Joseph Iacovides swimming in a time of 20.17.87 broke the long-standing 11-12 years club record of 20.52.56 by a massive 35 seconds. The record was previously set by Luke Pearson in the December 2000 club championships.

The results were as follows:

‘A’ 1st Joseph Iacovides pb: 2nd Christopher D’Agostino pb.

‘B’ 1st Jack Bond pb: 2nd Josh Wilson pb.

‘C’ 1st Harry Ballmann pb: 2nd Joshua Holman sb.

Joseph, Jack and Harry all achieved Northamptonshire ASA 2012 county qualifying times.

Record breakers in December not previously reported were: Joseph Iacovides 11-12yrs 400m freestyle 5.07.97 set at the club champs taking five seconds off the time set by Jack Bond (5.12.68) in October 2010.

Sophie Iacovides 13-14yrs 400m individual medley set a time of 5.41.38 at the Development Gala breaking another long-standing record (5.42.57) set in 1995 by Lucy Hammond.

Head coach Rob Sharp was delighted with these results and performances and said the swimmers had exceeded his expectations at this point in the season.
