Numbers grow for town’s triathlon

GOLD medal success for Great Britain in the Olympics has prompted more than 200 competitors, so far, to sign up to take part in Daventry’s first triathlon race.

Rugby Triathlon Club’s race director Garry Haynes said: “There’s still time for online entries.

“Come and have a go and experience the thrill of the sport or just come along to watch and support.

“It’ll be a great event.”

Daventry Sprint Triathlon will start early on the Sunday morning of September 2 at about 7am.

There will be a 400m swim at Daventry Leisure Centre, followed by a 20km bike ride through the surrounding countryside and finally a 5km run around Daventry Country park .

The finishing line will be in front of Daventry 
District council offices in Lodge Road.

The event is expected to be completed by 2pm.

Competitors from across the Midlands and beyond are taking part in the event which is in aid of Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and Back Up.
