Medals feast for talented athletes

DAVENTRY Athletic Club members bagged 17 medals, including eight golds, at the Northants Track and Field Championships at Corby over the weekend.

Niklas Aarre continued his excellent start to the season by becoming county champion in the U17 men’s discus with a throw of 44.50m.

This won him The Ernest Boyfield Trophy for the Best U17 male or female performance in a field event.

Niklas also won the U17 shot and was placed third in the hammer.

The club had two other double gold medallists – Sam Meyler in the U17 men’s high jump (1.86m) and long jump (6.20m) and Kieran Russ in the U17 men’s 100m hurdles (14.4) and javelin (42.33m).

Kieran also won silver medals in the high jump and discus.

Connor Aldridge became county champion in the U15 boys’ 300m with a club record time of 39.1 sec and also came second in the 100m.

Georgia Webster was another gold medallist in the U17 women’s 80m hurdles.

Maisy Radford set a new club record of 46.1 sec when coming second in the U15 girls’ 300m.

And Matt Clarke won a hat-trick of silver medals in the U17 men’s 100m hurdles, long jump and javelin and Joe Stewart was a bronze medallist in the U13 boys’ 100m.
