WORLD Endurance Championship star and former F1 driver Karun Chandhok hosted a charity karting event at Whilton Mill, near Daventry.

The event was to raise funds for children living in poverty in his home town of Chennai, India.

Karun, who drives for JRM Racing in the World Endurance Championship event at Silverstone, invited members of the media, F1 and endurance championship paddocks and karting enthusiasts to an endurance karting event at the circuit.

Working in teams of three, the karters first enjoyed a qualifying session to determine the grid before a 90-minute race sharing the kart between them.

The race - which had a field of 66 karters - was won by a team entered by Ilmor Engineering, based in Brixworth.

Karun said: “It was a fun event, taken in good spirit – I hope this becomes a regular fixture in the calendar!”
