Kart team on track to move up table

EKL Northampton Knights Kart Team put in their best performance to date with an impressive eight top-10 finishes from 12 sprint races at Clay Pigeon raceway in Dorset – the track where Jenson Button started racing.

The F1 connections don’t stop there with team manager and driver Luke Austin (pictured) being an F1 designer for 
Force India.

A total of 27 Elite Karting League teams competed in the event and following the sprints, the Race of Champions ‘dash for cash’ was contested.

The Knights qualified well in fifth and were moving towards the front when contact with a rival impacted on the handling of the kart and the team had to settle for 14th.

In the two one-hour endurance races the team amassed more points by finishing fifth in the first race and then moving through the order from 14th to finish eighth in the second.

The drivers were team manager Luke Austin ,21, Ian Williams, 25, Will Dendy, 24, and James Fitchew, 25. The team have move up from eleventh to eighth.

Luke said: “The team had clearly shown its pace this weekend and well over half of the races were in the top 10 which is fantastic.

“We were rewarded with a three place gain in the championship to eighth place. We also finished fourth overall on the day which is the best result to date.”
