LONG Buckby Ladies enjoyed a double win against University of Warwick taking all six points putting them in to third place in the Warwickshire Ladies’ Second Division hockey league.
Buckby played University of Warwick Ladies twice this weekend to catch up on the postponed games.
Saturday’s game saw the first goal from Kit Seymour who scored from a short corner 10 minutes into the game.
With the forwards supported well from the midfield, Buckby were soon awarded another short corner. Sharron Evans took the strike cleanly and Buckby went in to half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Warwick Ladies came out strong, but it was not long into the second-half before Chloe Kirby poached the ball from the Warwick defence passed to Susan Fox, who hit the ball past the goalie taking the score to 3-0.
The final goal came when Chloe connected from a cross and tucked the ball over the line. Any breaks from Warwick were easily dealt with by the experienced Buckby defence, and Warwick chances on goal were thwarted by excellent goal keeping by Chelsea Evans.
Weather conditions were not so favourable on the return game on Sunday but Buckby played with confidence with the win under their belts.
The first goal came from Kit Seymour in the form of a short corner strike which hit the top of the back board.
Shortly after Sophie Windatt claimed her first goal of the season neatly putting away a well-worked cross from Sue Robson.
Sara Barnes had a goal disallowed just before half-time.
The game was cut short due to weather conditions in the second-half preventing Buckby from scoring any more goals but Buckby walked away with a well-deserved 2-0 win.
The club are continuing to recruit for new players.
