Double rink victory

DAVENTRY Indoor bowling club secured another good win by 39-33 in the third round of the National Over 60s double rink competition against Desborough.

Playing at home, Geoff Allen, Geoff Smith, Michael Moullton and Bernard Spreadbury 22 John Haines 14.

Away Tony Dicks, Brian Jones, Mick Richardson and Mick Worthington 17 Carl Haines 19. They now play Rushden in the next round.

For the second week running there was a tied game in the Wessex League.

This time it was against Bromsgrove with a 78-78 scoreline. It all came down to the last end with Daventry two shots down overall but gaining two shots on the last rink to finish with a tie in the game.

Playing away the rink of Brian Scott, Malcolm Foster, Alan Gardner and Michael Moulton had a superb win 36-16 against the rink skipped by B Hay.

Other rink scores were, also away Geoff Allen, Roy Marnewick, Mick Starkey and Roy Aberdein 13 D Banks 22.

At home Peter Ashbrook, Ray Rumble, Bernard Spreadbury and Duggie Mitchell 14 John Cracknell 26. Brian Jones, Adge Smith, Rien Sach and Terry Fuller 15 N Breeton 14.

The next Wessex league match is on December 11 against Rugby Thornfield.

Rugby Thornfield were the visitors for this week’s ladies’ friendly and Daventry pulled off an excellent 85-67 win.

On Sunday Daventry entertained Brackley for a three-rink mixed game and after a close encounter were pipped 51-48.
