Daventry Ladies lift title to make club history

WITH the league title already secured, Daventry Ladies entered the final game of the season in a relaxed mood.

The Wildcats were in a similar mood having already secured third place in the league.

Daventry took the early lead with a great move down the wing involving, Donna Welsh, Hayley Frost, Alex Meek, who found Roni Blyth inside the D.

The pass went to Angela Bartlett to push past the on- coming keeper. Daventry soon went 2-0 up, with fine defensive play from Mandy Thompson.

Angela Bartlett was put through and confidently smashed the ball into the corner.

Wildcats would not give up and were quickly back in the game.

Daventry were back in front just before the half-time whistle. With Hayley Frost and Steph Borthwick combining to send Alex Meek powering through the middle and finishing in style.

Wildcats took their chances and went 4-3 up. Daventry refused to give up and created numerous chances.

Daventry were awarded a penalty flick and captain Angela Bartlett stepped forward to score and complete her hat-trick.

Wildcats scored the winner in the last minutes. But Daventry Ladies were first division champions for the first time in the club’s history.

They played 18 games won 12, drew three and lost three finishing three points ahead of Kettering.
