FROM the starting whistle the Daventry girls passed the ball confidently around the park using every team member to seek space and more territory.
Within 10 minutes Daventry showed their prowess and edged ahead putting away three excellent goals.
Angelina scored first with Alex providing a well-timed cross and then minutes later powering her strike from a penalty corner.
The third goal was the result of precision passing from the back, with Alex powering in the cross with Ronaldo re-directing it past the keeper.
Rothwell reverted to a “hit and hope approach” to clearing balls out of their half.
With Daventry showing discipline in defence, they were able to overturn the ball to create attacking opportunities. Time and time again Jo found space and her persistence won a penalty flick which was professionally executed by Ronaldo – a good way to finish the first-half.
In the second-half Daventry continued to play with poise and as a tight unit, but particularly in defence with Steph, Mandy, Donna and Alison continually impeding Rothwell of their opportunities.
The fifth goal was a product of crisp passing with Angelina laying off the ball to Toni who connected on her reverse, sending the ball into the backboard.
The goals kept coming with Angelina and Ronaldo achieving hat-tricks – Angelina from another cross in from Alex and Ronaldo from a darting run.
Toni experienced the “parting of the waves” with so much space and scored her second from a run in from the halfway line.
Zoe also managed to add goals to the tally with her first from a tight angle, the second a deflection on a penalty corner.
For much of the game Rothwell seemed dazed and could not match Daventry’s tactics, which also came as a surprise to the usually vocal Karen in goal who herself was only required to make a few token dives.
