HELLIDON Lakes’ golf club’s season opener was the Ladbroke Cup won by the in-form duo of Paul King and Darren Welsh.
They gained a very creditable score of 40 stableford points in this popular greensomes competition.
In second place was Richard Barnes and Malcolm Gregory with 35 points.
In the Mail on Sunday national competition Hellidon have made the most of home draws in the first two rounds, defeating Rye Hill in round one 4-1 and Newbold Comyn 3-2 in the second round.
The quarter finals of the winter league was played in horrendous conditions and G.Caunt and Michael Howes defeated Danny Carty and Malcolm Gregory. Chris Harvey and Richard French went down 2 and 1 to Tom Laver and Bill Stubbins.
Martin Bannister and Simon Keyte overcame Paul Upfield and Mick Canning at the second extra hole and Paul King and Darren Welsh went down to Richard Barnes and Duncan Childs.
In the semi-finals G.Caunt and M.Howes will play M.Bannister and S.Keyte and Tom Laver and Bill Stubbins will play R.Barnes and D.Childs on Saturday from 8am.
