POPULAR Daventry martial arts instructor Master Jackson White was given the surprise of his life when he turned up for his usual teaching session in the town.

For students and fellow instructors made a special presentation to mark the fact that he had been teaching Tae Kwon Do in the town for more than 30 years.

Students he had taught over the years and their families turned up out of the blue during the evening to congratulate him and send him their best wishes at the special celebration.

He was presented with a specially-made card to mark the occasion.

Master Jackson White told the Gusher the presentation had been “a complete surprise” for him.

He was particularly pleased to meet up with so many people he had taught over the years.

Jackson first started teaching Tae Kwon Do in the town in about the 1980s and was based at the former Daventry Boys’ Club in Hemans Road, Daventry.

He then moved his club base to the Grange estate where he stayed for several years before moving finally to the new Leisure Centre when it opened.

Master Jackson White now teaches at Daventry two nights a week and has another club at Towcester but one of his black belts teaches there.

He believes Tae Kwon Do can have an important part to play in people’s lives who take up the sport. It teaches them discipline and in times when youngsters spend more time playing computer games it is good to get them out the house and being active.
