BOWLS: Daventry five get chance to shine for Northants

FIVE bowlers from Daventry IBC have been named in the Northants Ladies team to take on Kettering Lodge in a friendly next Monday (January 7).

The quartet are Julie Spreadbury, Brenda Bishop, Joan Watts, Vicki Rushall and Jean Pownall-Davies.

Daventry’s Sylvia Plant has also been named as reserve.

The match will be played at Kettering, and starts at 2pm.

ALL of Northants’ indoor clubs have entered the County League organised by the men’s Northamptonshire Indoor Bowling Association.

The season starts this Saturday (January 5)

The format is for four triples from each participating club, with two triples playing at home and two triples playing away on a ‘round robin’ basis.

Each club will be playing one match against every other county club.

Daventry IBC begin thair campaign with a match against Brackley & District.

THERE was disappointment for Daventry’s Rick Hayes and his team as they were beaten in the first round of the County Triples competition.

They went down to Matt Pownall’s Desborough triple.

DAVENTRY’S Vicki Rushall will play Wellingborough’s Tina Broderick in the area final of the national singles.

Broderick booked her place in the final to take on Rushall with a 21-13 semi-final win over Sally Row of Kingsthorpe.
