Beginners’ courses in canoeing

BANBURY and District Canoe Club’s season of beginner courses kicks off with an Easter holiday junior course.

Aimed at children aged 8-14 years, it takes place between Monday, April 2 to Thursday, April 5, 9.30am to 11am, and teaches all the basic skills of canoeing and kayaking.

The course takes place on the Oxford canal at Cropredy, 15 miles south of Daventry.

Throughout the summer, the club is running a number of beginner courses for adults and children.

Each course is six hours long and usually consists of four 90- minute sessions. Juniors must be eight-years-old, or older. All participants, whether adult or junior, must be able to swim 50m.

Both courses cover the same basic skills so there is no problem with adults joining the junior course if it is more convenient. Older juniors aged 14+ may join the adult course.

Boats, paddles and buoyancy aids are all provided.

Full details of all the courses are on the canoe club’s website
