Badgers’ game is a nail-biter

LONG Buckby Badgers got the upper hand in their derby clash with Daventry Badgers.

The game hung in the balance until well into the second-half until Buckby carried off a 3-0 win.

The match started at a fast pace with both teams sharing a good deal of possession but without seriously testing either keeper in the early stages.

The first clear chance fell to Long Buckby, but Ed van der Kuil shot straight at the Daventry keeper who cleared well.

Long Buckby pressed hard but could not make the breakthrough in the first-half.

The second-half started in a similar manner but it took until 20 minutes to go before Finn Pickard produced a low drive to the keeper’s left to open the scoring.

The second goal was going to be decisive.

With Daventry looking dangerous going forward they started to leave themselves open at the back.

Pickard again found the goal following good work from Tom Robson and Rory Jamieson on the right wing.

With time running out the game was finally sealed as hard-working 10-year old Connor Robson found 11-year-old Arun Mehta just inside the D.

Arun produced the shot of the game to beat a wrong- footed Daventry keeper to put the final score 3-0 to Long Buckby.
