BUCKBY found themselves under mounting early pressure but held their composure to finish the match all square.
Welford started in a positive manner trying to stamp their authority on the run of play.
And their continued pressure nearly paid off, but for two fine saves by Jake Bennett in the Long Buckby goal.
James Heighton and James Bennion kept Welford busy but it was a slip that allowed Welford to take advantage.
Buckby conceded only their second goal of the season just before half-time.
The second-half saw Buckby force a string of short corners and it was the third one that got Buckby a deserved equaliser.
The ball rebounded to Finn Pickard who diverted the ball into the goal.
Buckby nearly grabbed a second and winning goal late on, but the goal was ruled out.
With Welford winning the Badgers’ League for the last two seasons, the game showed how far Long Buckby have come this season.
